Certaines de ces aires prot\u00e9g\u00e9es reconnues et d\u00e9sign\u00e9es par l\u2019UNESCO comme r\u00e9serves de biosph\u00e8re totalisent une superficie de 2,2 millions d\u2019hectares. La sous-r\u00e9gion se distingue dans la mise en oeuvre de cette derni\u00e8re cat\u00e9gorie d\u2019aires prot\u00e9g\u00e9es, notamment dans la pratique des \u00e9valuations p\u00e9riodiques de l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 des aires prot\u00e9g\u00e9es, \u00e0 travers des exercices IMET.<br \/>Fort des outils ou cadres existants et dans le souci de d\u00e9marrer la mise en oeuvre de l\u2019objectif op\u00e9rationnel 2 de l\u2019axe prioritaire 3 du PC, portant sur le d\u00e9veloppement et la mise en oeuvre des m\u00e9canismes d\u2019incitation \u00e0 la labellisation de la gestion et la valorisation des aires prot\u00e9g\u00e9es, que la COMIFAC a b\u00e9n\u00e9fici\u00e9 de l\u2019appui financier du Programme BIOPAMA-UICN. Elle est charg\u00e9e de l\u2019orientation, de l&rsquo;harmonisation et du suivi des politiques foresti\u00e8res et environnementales en Afrique Centrale. Ainsi, elle assure la gestion durable et la conservation des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes forestiers du Bassin du Congo qui reste le second plus grand massif tropical apr\u00e8s l\u2019Amazonie. Relativement conserv\u00e9, il joue un r\u00f4le important dans la r\u00e9gulation du syst\u00e8me climatique continental et mondial car offre \u00e0 ces for\u00eats d\u2019Afrique centrale des moyens
